2019 Jeep  Cherokee vs 2019 Toyota  RAV4 near Victoria, TX

If you are looking for a new mid-size SUV two brands come to mind: Jeep and Toyota. The Jeep Cherokee and the Toyota RAV4 have been always been in direct competition with each other and 2019 is no exception. Which SUV will come out on top in 2019? Continue reading to find out.

2019 Jeep  Cherokee Power & Handling

The 2019 Jeep Cherokee comes with three discernible engines. The standard is the 2.4 liter 4-cylinder which puts out 180 horsepower. The next engine is a 3.2-liter V6 which gives 271 horsepower. The third available engine is the brand new 2.0-liter turbocharged  inline-4 which offers the best available torque at 295 lb-ft. The 2019 Cherokee can tow up to an impressive 4,500 pounds and the all-wheel drive is available in all three engines. All engines come complete with a 9-speed automatic transmission system that offers up a relatively smooth ride. The Cherokee's fuel capacity is also impressive offering a 15.8-gallon tank. The Trailhawk trim even includes a rock-crawl mode allowing it to go over the rough stuff with ease.

2019 Toyota  RAV4 Power & Handling

The Toyota RAV4 comes with only one engine option which is a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder which is controlled with an 8-speed automatic transmission and 184 lb-ft of torque. A hybrid option is also available which offers 203 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. All-wheel drive is available but that is only for the Hybrid model, in the non-hybrid front-wheel drive is the standard. The RAV4's fuel economy is admittedly impressive but the fuel capacity is only 14.5 gallons.

2019 Jeep  Cherokee Features & Design

The 2019 Jeep Cherokee boasts a bevy of interior upgrades. The air vents are larger, the materials are soft to the touch and there is more storage room. There is even an upgrade in the infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The driver's seat is extremely comfortable with plush seating and passengers also get a good amount of leg and headroom. Even with all of this the 2019 Cherokee still managed to get an additional three cubic feet of cargo space, bringing its grand total to 25.8. On the outside, the Cherokee boasts a new LED headlight system that sits between a slim encloser that draws comparisons to the Compass. The high-end Trailhawk trim boasts beefy tires, black-out hood, and red tow hooks making it perfect for off-roading.

2019 Toyota  RAV4 Features & Design

There is certainly a ritzy feel to the 2019 RAV4. The cabin looks and feels upscale and the soft-touch materials are certainly a welcome addition. There is a crisp, bright 8-inch screen that dominates the center console which comes complete with Apple CarPlay but not Android Auto like its competitors. While the driver's seat looks plush and is comfortable, the passenger side seat leaves something to be desired. The outside offers a grille that looks like it was ripped from classic Toyota trucks and the black cladding and unique front bumper are a nice touch even if they are only available in one color. The RAV4 does come standard with 17-inch wheels, but 18 and 19 inches are also available.

Conclusions

This one is a legitimate tough call as both SUV's have their merits. In the end, we have to give it to the 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The off-roading advantages are simply better, especially with the Trailhawk's ability to rock climb. The interior is also better with its comfortable seating all the way around and the addition Android Auto. The new LED headlight system is also one of our favorite features.
