2021 Gladiator EcoDiesel Revealed

Brought to You by Cuero Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram

Jeep declared with off-roading prowess with the introduction of the 2020 Gladiator, entering the mid-size pickup truck segment as the most capable model offered! Jeep is only cranking things up a notch with the introduction of the EcoDiesel 3.0-liter V6 engine that boasts the best driving range and most torque! Read on down below as we talk more about this new engine addition and what it will do for the Gladiator's capabilities.

Could you share more about what makes this engine so outstanding?

This is the third-generation of the EcoDiesel 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 that Jeep is working with. Gladiator drivers have been asking for an engine that delivers minimal levels of noise, vibration and harshness, dependable fuel economy, and boosted torque and horsepower and this engine does just that! Some significant changes were made to this engine to ensure that it would seamlessly work with the Gladiator and improve the dynamic performance and fuel efficiency. To reduce the NVH (noice, vibrations and harshness), the piston pin was offset from the center by 0.3 millimeters and the lightweight aluminum alloy pistons were completely redesigned and now include low-friction diamond-like carbon coating and thinner rings. The combustion chamber was newly designed for optimization and the high-pressure direct-injection fuel injector nozzles were also redesigned.

How much power is this engine creating?

This EcoDiesel 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine can generate up to 260 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque. Engine start/stop technology comes standard with this engine, enhancing the Gladiator's fuel economy and reducing its greenhouse gas emissions! This engine's transmission match, an eight-speed 8HP75 automatic, allows it to handle greater torque loads as it has been specifically designed for the low RPM shifts the on- and off-roading require. There are more than 40 individual shift maps which optimizes the shift points for fuel economy, performance, and 4x4 capability.

What else can you say about this engine's capabilities?

Each and every Gladiator model that comes outfitted with this EcoDiesel engine is ready to take on any terrain or weather condition. Each of the Gladiator's three trim levels are equipped with Dana 44 3rd-generation front and rear heavy-duty axles and a 3.73 axle ratio. The Rubicon model takes things even further with a two-speed Rock-Trac transfer case that delivers a 4.0:1 low-range gear ratio. The Sport and Overland models are equipped with a part-time two-speed transfer case that offers a 2.72:1 low-range gear ratio called Command-Trac.

Is there anything else you can tell us about the Gladiator?

Outfitted with Jeep's legendary 4x4 capability, the Gladiator is more capable than any other mid-size pickup truck on the road today. If you have to tow, the Gladiator can handle up to 7,650-pound towing with the best-in-class capacity and hauling up to 1,700 pounds with the best-in-class payload capability. Drivers can experience the great outdoors in a whole new way thanks to the Gladiator's removable roof and doors. Other great features include all-season tires, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, Bluetooth, an 8-speaker sound system, smartphone integration, a 7-inch touchscreen, and more!
